About Us

Development of RoboTape

Having roots in custom automation, our team brings forth extensive industry knowledge to the table. Over the years, we recognized the need to address the growing demand for automated tape application in manufacturing. With global sales of technical tapes projected to double in the next decade, particularly in industries like automotive, there’s a clear market need for automation.

This insight guided the project’s direction, culminating in a two-and-a-half-year endeavor to create a versatile software interface and a flexible hardware setup capable of seamless integration across different robotic platforms and manufacturing layouts.

“We came up with the idea of a remote feeding module that positions the spool outside of the work cell. That’s now patent pending worldwide,” Cutt says. “It also helps with the robot sizing issue, allows for larger spools and increases system uptime. This is why big automotive clients are latching onto it, it’s currently the only solution that actually solves the entire problem.”

RoboTape Today

Today, RoboTape is recognized as the go-to solution for tape automation. With installations across a variety of industries, 5 global integration partners, a collaboration with 3M, and numerous patents, there is no doubt that RoboTape has made tremendous strides in recent years.

About the Team

Located in Newmarket, Ontario, our new building employs a variety of technical staff including mechanical, electrical and controls programmers which work together to build and test new RoboTape systems. In person visits are always welcome at the facility.

“We looked at each other and said,
Wouldn’t it be great if we could make the cut in the [robotic] head, and feed the tape from a spool?”
